Course Description
Students will learn about characteristics of wind. Then we’ll move onto wind speed data measurement and analysis. You will then learn about wind turbine systems (WTS), selection of suitable WTS, installation, commissioning and maintenance and then finally WAsP software will be used.
The course covers the laboratory component of the course Wind Energy system respectively. Laboratories are an important part of the course. This course will enhance the theoretical knowledge gain by series of practicals. It also provides you with the hands-on skills in resource and load assessment, analysis and design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of wind energy systems and its applications, at least in a laboratory environment.  
This unit builds on the basic knowledge of Energy Conservation Technology. This unit focus on energy saving technique and its application and utilization. Energy conservation means reducing energy consumption but not compromising the quality or quantity of energy production. Essential theoretical and practical knowledge about the concept of energy conservation, energy management, and different approaches of energy conservation in industries, economic aspects of energy conservation projects and energy audit and measuring instruments in the commercial and industrial sector will be achieved by this course.
Energy is one of the major inputs for the economic development of any country. The global need for energy is increasing on an average by about 1.5% every year. We need to have a relevant strategy of adjusting and optimizing energy, using systems and procedures to reduce energy requirements per unit of output while holding constant or reducing total costs of producing the output from these systems. In addition to this energy situation in any country is governed by its energy security and policies; hence this course will introduce the relevant policies regarding the energy situation in Fiji and Pacific Island Countries (PICs).
The overall purpose of this unit is to develop understanding and skills related to the construction, cooperation and performance of electrical machines. The course covers the laboratory component of the course. Electrical Machines Drives and Controls Laboratories are an essential part of the course. This course will enhance the theoretical knowledge you gain in the course Electrical Machines Drives and Controls through a series of practicals. The experiments cover concepts from classical mechanics, fluid flow, heat and temperature to electricity.
